Clairemont ~ After School Program

The After School Program focuses on the essential skills needed to be a good mountain biker that includes: trail safety and stewardship, trail scanning, bike and body positioning, braking, gear shifting, turning and cornering, wheel lifts, proper climbing and descending, ratcheting and more!

This program is for kids 8+ years old that are comfortable riding a geared mountain bike on dirt trails and is limited to 8 participants each session. Parents you can drop off or hang out at your discretion. The event fee also includes a nifty swag bag with all sorts of riding gear and discounts!

Please come ready with a geared mountain bike that has 24″ or greater wheels,  is recently serviced and well working. Don’t forget to double check the chain, brakes and tire air pressure. Wear a properly fitted helmet (snug is important), closed toe sneakers and athletic clothing that is safe to ride in and weather appropriate. Well fed and hydrated riders tend to have the most fun! Please bring a water bottle and light snack.

Trail rides are incorporated into the 2nd half of the program leaving from the park into the nearby trail network.

This program starts with the basics and progresses to high level shredding that every bike loving kid needs! We guarantee you they will be ripping it up like no other, HIGH levels of FLOW and FUN to be had!

The Sprockids San Diego Fundamentals I clinic teaches off-road skills and essential technique through drills, games, and fun activities.

Your rider will learn: bike safety and how to conduct an ABC bike check, importance of a properly fit helmet and a helmet check, about bike components and equipment, the three mountain bike essentials, what neutral and ready position are and how and when to use them, proper bike body positioning and separation, shifting gears and how to brake effectively. Skills are taught in a playful environment using our obstacles and playing games while on the bike!

This clinic is suitable for riders aged 7+ that are comfortable riding their bikes off-road.

Please come ready with a geared mountain bike that has a wheel size of 20″ or greater and is recently serviced and functional. Don’t forget to double check the chain, brakes and tire air pressure. Wear a properly fitted helmet (snug is important), closed toe sneakers and athletic clothing that is safe to ride in and weather appropriate. Well fed and hydrated riders tend to have the most fun! Please bring a bike mounted water bottle or hydration pack and a light snack.

Sprockids Fundamentals I & II Clinics
Our Sprockids Fundamentals I & II clinics provide a comprehensive two-part program designed to build essential off-road biking skills. Held over two weekends, these clinics help riders progress in their biking journey through engaging drills, games, and activities that make learning fun and effective!

What Your Rider Will Learn: In these clinics, riders will cover all the essentials, including:

  • Bike Safety: Conducting an ABC (Air, Brakes, Chain) bike check.
  • Helmet Fit: Understanding the importance of a properly fitted helmet and how to perform a helmet check.
  • Bike Components & Equipment: Learning about bike parts and essential gear.
  • Core Techniques: Mastering the three mountain bike essentials, neutral and ready positions, proper body positioning, and effective separation.
  • Advanced Skills: Practicing gear shifting, braking techniques, steering and cornering, mounting and dismounting on hills, ratcheting, switchbacks, wheel lifts, and more!

All skills are taught in a supportive, playful environment using obstacles and games to make learning enjoyable and engaging. With a small coach-to-rider ratio, each rider receives personalized attention to build confidence and develop a solid foundation.

Who Can Join? These clinics are ideal for riders aged 7+ who feel comfortable riding off-road.

What to Bring:

  • A properly fitted helmet (snug fit is important).

Join us for an exciting week of mountain biking at our Summer Camp Program in Clairemont! This Monday-Friday program is designed to teach kids the basics of bike skills and provide them with the opportunity to shred on the trails. In addition to biking, we have planned a variety of fun games and activities to keep the participants engaged and entertained.

During the program, we will cover essential bike skills such as trail safety and stewardship, bike and body positioning, braking, gear shifting, turning and cornering, climbing and descending, and more. Our experienced instructors will guide the participants through interactive games and drills to reinforce these skills. We will also embark on trail rides that start from the park and explore a nearby trail network. This will allow the participants to put their newly acquired skills into practice and experience the thrill of mountain biking in a safe and supervised environment.

This program is open to kids aged 7 and above, with a bike wheel size of 20″ or greater, who are comfortable riding a geared mountain bike on dirt trails. 

For the summer program, your rider will need to bring a bike that is in good working condition, a properly fitted helmet (snug is important), closed-toe sneakers, wear athletic clothing that is safe and suitable for biking, a packed lunch, light snacks, and a water bottle to stay energized and hydrated throughout the day.

DISCOVERY Charter – After School Program

Welcome Discovery Dragons to the After School Program!

The Sprockids San Diego After School Program teaches off-road skills and essential technique through drills, games, and fun activities.  

Your rider will learn: bike safety and how to conduct an ABC bike check, importance of a properly fit helmet and a helmet check, about bike components and equipment, the three mountain bike essentials, what neutral and ready position are and how and when to use them, proper bike body positioning and separation, shifting gears and how to brake effectively. Skills are taught in a playful environment using our obstacles and playing games while on the bike!

This quarter’s events are specifically for riders in grades 4, 5, and 6 who are comfortable riding their bikes off-road.  This event is limited to 10 riders.

3:00pm – 4:30pm at Discovery Charter

*Thursday, 9/14 and 9/21

1:15pm – 3:15pm, meet at Discovery Charter to ride the Rice Canyon Trail

Learn to Ride – Clairemont

Riding a bike is SO MUCH FUN and we want to help everyone enjoy this amazing, lifelong, outdoor activity!  This one day clinic provides a step-by-step process on how to confidently ride a bike.  Through engaging activities teaching and reinforcing skills we’ll have everyone rolling in no time!  Our friendly professional coaching staff in combination with a small coach to rider class ratio will help to overcome fears and teach important skills.  Learning the skills of paddling and wiggling will get every rider on the way to confidently start and stop, understand how to maneuver bikes around obstacles, and much more! Our fun, unique, and proven instruction methods will help everyone experience the joy of riding a bike!

Participants for this clinic should arrive with their own bike without training wheels.  Rider should be able to sit on the seat with their feet flat on the ground. The event is open to everyone age 4+.  For riders 4-12 years old, an accompanying adult may be needed to support their rider throughout the clinic.  Also, don’t forget hydration (water bottle or hydration pack) and a small snack.

PARENTS: Mom and Dad, do you need help learning to ride a bike as well?  Great news, we will teach you alongside your child!  Please sign yourself up as well. 

EQUIPMENT: Weather appropriate clothing and closed toed shoes, hydration (water bottle or hydration pack), a small snack, and a fun positive attitude!
