1 Sprocket

• Gliding and striding on a balance bike (or bike with pedals removed)
• Can balance and pedal on two wheels

2 Sprockets

• Riding a bike with handbrakes, multi-speed gears with 20″ wheels
• Can balance and pedal on two wheels
• Able to ride on flat pavement, minor hills, and possibly some sections of flat, wide dirt trails
• No yet comfortable riding steep hills and/or controlling speed
• Don’t yet have the skills or confidence to ride terrain with roots, rocks, tights corners
• Minimal to no experience riding on single track

3 Sprockets

• Riding a bike with handbrakes, multi-speed gears with 24″ wheels
• Able to climb and descend on paved pathways and wide dirt trails
• Comfortable modulating speed on downhills
• Knowledge of shifting, guidance still needed
• Riding beginner, off-road trails with confidence
• Some practice with climbing and descending on dirt trails

4 Sprockets

• Riding a bike with handbrakes, multi-speed gears with 24″ wheels and able to use them
• Suspension highly recommended
• Riding confidently on smooth, beginner and some intermediate single track trails
• Comfortable avoiding obstacles and/or riding on trails with some rocks, roots, uneven terrain
• Comfortable with short climbs and descents, corning on small berms, and navigating rolling terrain
• Confident with both slowing and stopping unexpectedly
• Suggested to have attended, Fundamentals/ASP/Family Ride and/or be signed off on by a Sprockids coach
